The University reserves the right to immobilize, tow, or relocate any vehicle parked in violation of these regulations at the owner's expense*. This may happen with no warning, even if the owner has no previous violations. Vehicles that have three or more unpaid violations and/or have been identified as habitual violators are also subject to tow.
The University generally uses Hartmann's Towing, for towing services.Their facility is located very close to a University shuttle route, and they can be reached at:

If you suspect your vehicle has been towed or relocated, you should first contact Parking Services at (314) 935-5601 to verify the location of your vehicle. After normal business hours and on weekends, contact the Washington University Police Department at (314) 935-5555. Abandoned or derelict vehicles will be towed, stored, and/or disposed of at the discretion of the University. A vehicle is considered derelict if it is:
- Not properly licensed
- Inoperative or partially dismantled
- Parked on University property (without authorization)
for more than 72 hours
The University is not responsible for damage to a vehicle resulting from towing or immobilization.
*Any vehicle that is parked illegally, parked in violation of University policy, or that must be moved for special events or maintenance.
How do I claim my vehicle?
You must provide proof of ownership plus picture ID to Hartmann Towing and pay the towing charges in cash. Your vehicle will then be released to you. If you aren’t sure why you were towed/relocated, you should also contact the Parking Services Office (935-5601) for clarification of the parking rules and regulations so that you can avoid similar inconveniences in the future.

Directions: Take Skinker North to Olive, go west on Olive, Hartmann is on North side of Olive. Map.
Vehicles may be picked up from 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Special arrangements can be made for alternate pick up times if necessary. Hartmann Towing is located very near Washington University shuttle route service. The Green Line shuttle route drops off 1-2 blocks from Hartmann Towing.
Important Note: The driver may be able to deviate from the route and drop directly in front of Hartmann Towing depending on the time of day you are using the service. Please check with the driver when you board the bus at the Mallinckrodt Center. For additional shuttle information, please call 935-4140.
If your vehicle was relocated to another part of campus, contact Parking Services (935-5601) or University Police (935-5555) for the exact location.
How much will it cost?
You must pay all tow-related charges with cash. All charges must be paid before vehicle will be released. Towing charges begin at $50.00, not to exceed $100.00 (excluding applicable storage charges).
- Vehicle hook up and tow: $50.00
- Dolly, additional charge of: $35.00
- Swivel/Go Jack Service, additional charge of: $35.00
- Vehicle Unlock, additional charge of: $35.00
- Mileage, additional charge of: $2.50 per mile
- Vehicle Storage Fee: $12.00/day for each day after first 24 hours
Note: All front wheel drive vehicles, all wheel drive vehicles, all SUV's, with the emergency brake set will incur an additional $35.00 charge. Relocation charge - $45.00. A drop fee of $35.00 can be paid to the tow truck driver. This fee is applicable if you have returned to your car while the tow truck driver is hooking your car to his truck and before he has pulled away with your vehicle. To claim your vehicle you must pay the relocate fee and provide proof of ownership & picture ID. This fee must be paid in cash. Vehicle released immediately upon payment of fee.
