Visitors:
1. I am not
a Washington University student or employee, but I will be visiting
the campus. Where can I park?
At Washington University, parking is a limited resource;
parking regulations are enforced to ensure that this resource
is available to as many individuals as possible. If you are not
a Washington University permit-holder, please note the several
visitor parking options on campus:
Visitor parking meters are available in several areas
of campus (visitor parking meters
are designated as the purple areas on the parking map). Parking
meters must be paid, and the cost is 25 cents for fifteen minutes
(for a maximum of two hours). Many of the parking meters on campus
are double-sided, which means that one parking meter accepts coins
and marks time for two separate parking spaces. If you are parking
at one of these two-sided meters, please make sure that you select
the appropriate space after inserting your coins. When coins are
inserted into the parking meter, you will be prompted to then choose
your space. Please select either the left arrow or the right arrow,
depending on which side your vehicle is parked.
One-Day Parking Permits are available for the cost
of $5, and are valid in any yellow zone on campus for one day (designated
as yellow areas on the parking map). Daily permits can be purchased
at the Campus Bookstore in Mallinckrodt Center (Building
#60 on the parking map) or at the office of Parking Services
on the North Campus (700 Rosedale,
Building #500 on the parking map).
Pay and Display parking is available in the parking
lot just east of the Kemper Art Museum (Lot
2E on the parking map). Visitors may insert money into the Pay
and Display machine, and will receive a receipt to display on the
dashboard as proof of payment. Parking in this area is $1 per hour.
Hourly Parking in the Danforth Garage is also available.
The Danforth Garage is located below the University Center (currently
under construction - see Building #104 on the parking map).
Visitors who enter the garage will pull a ticket, and will pay the
hourly rate of $1 per hour upon exiting the garage. The maximum
charge in the garage is $5. During construction, those who wish
to enter the garage will use the temporary entrance from Olympian
Way. Please follow the signs to the garage entrance.
During weekends (6:00 p.m. Friday through 7:00 a.m.
Monday), visitors may park in any yellow zone without
displaying a parking permit (with the exception of the Danforth
Garage). Enforcement is also suspended on official University holidays
(Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day,
Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day).
We're always glad to help! If
you have any questions about visitor parking on campus, you may call
our office at 935-5601 during our regular business hours (8:30 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday). We'll be glad to assist you.

2. I have been
invited to attend an event on campus. Do I still have to pay for
a temporary parking permit or pay a parking meter?
Many University departments hosting events will arrange
for parking for its invited guests. If the event is held on a weekend,
you may park for free in any yellow zone (please
see the parking map for all yellow zones on campus) with the
exception of the Danforth Garage. However, if you are attending
an event during the week, you must display a valid parking permit
or pay the hourly visitor rate at a parking meter or in the Danforth
Garage. If you have been invited to attend an event on campus during
the week and have not received any instructions regarding parking,
you may wish to contact the department hosting the event to find
out if they have made parking arrangements for its visitors. If
no arrangements have been made, then please follow the instructions
for visitor parking above.
Back to Visitors FAQ
3. I have a
state-issued handicapped placard. Do I still have to pay for a temporary
parking permit to park in the handicapped parking spaces on campus?
Yes, a Washington University parking permit is still
required to park on campus, even in the handicapped spaces. You
may obtain a one-day parking permit at the Campus Bookstore in Mallinckrodt
Center, or at the office of Parking Services on the North Campus
(700 Rosedale), which must be displayed with your handicapped placard
or license plates in order to utilize the handicapped parking areas
on campus.
Back to Visitors FAQ
4. I will be
visiting a student who lives on campus. Do you have overnight parking
available?
Overnight visitors must display a valid parking permit
at all times during the week. A valid one-day parking permit must
be displayed for each day that you park on campus (please
see Visitor Parking Options for more information about one-day parking
permits). If you plan to visit on a weekend, you may park in
any yellow zone without a parking permit (yellow zones do not require
a permit from 6:00 p.m. Friday to 7:00 a.m. Monday) with the exception
of the Danforth Garage. If you're visiting a campus resident on
the northeast side of campus (The Village or Millbrook Square),
yellow parking is available in the Snow Way Garage (#29
on the parking map). If you're visiting a resident of the South
40, yellow parking is available in the "Church Lot" at Wydown and
Shepley (#58 on the parking map)
or Lot #47 and #50 (see parking map)
at Forsyth and Wallace. If you need further assistance with parking
during your overnight visit, please contact the office of Parking
Services at 935-5601.
Back to Visitors FAQ
5. I received
a parking ticket while visiting campus. Since I was not aware of
the parking policies, and I'm neither a student nor an employee,
do I still have to pay this ticket?
If you have never been to Washington University's
campus, it can be difficult to know and adhere to the parking policies.
That is why Washington University's parking regulations include
the "Only Ticket Policy", which is explained as follows on the back
of each parking citation: "Only tickets need not be paid, no further
action is necessary. The University will automatically void a parking
citation at the completion of the fiscal year, July 1 - June 30
(for no permit, incorrect zone, or overtime at a meter only) if
it remains the only ticket issued. If any second ticket is issued,
the owner/operator is responsible for paying all fines". If your
ticket is the first you've received at Washington University, you
do not have to pay it unless you receive any additional tickets
on or before June 30. However, if your violation does not fall under
the only ticket policy (Fire Lane, Blocking, Fraudulent Permit,
etc.), then the citation must be paid. For more information about
parking citations, please contact the office of Parking Services
at 935-5601.
Back to Visitors FAQ
6. Can I ride
the Washington University shuttles if I am not a student or employee?
Washington University's Red, Gold and Green Lines
are operated by Metro St Louis, and require a U-Pass (which is available
to full-time students and benefits-eligible faculty and staff) to
ride. If you do not have a U-Pass, you may still ride the Red, Gold
or Green Line, but you will be required to pay the Metro bus fare.
For more information about the Washington University buses, contact
Transportation Services at 935-4140. Schedule and route information
is available at http://www.parking.wustl.edu/around.htm.
Back to Visitors FAQ
7. Where can
I park if I will be attending Washington University's Spring Commencement
exercises?
Commencement at Washington University is a time of
celebration for the grand achievement of our graduating students.
Each year in May, members of the Washington University community,
along with friends, family and other supporters gather on campus
to be a part of this momentous event. With such a large number of
people congregating for this occasion, parking can be quite challenging
on the day of Commencement. The Commencement ceremony takes place
in the Quadrangle (weather-permitting), and nearby general parking
in this area is permitted in the surface lots east of Brookings
Hall, west of Skinker Blvd. (see Lots
2W, 2E, and Lot 4 on the parking map). During Commencement exercises,
visitor parking is permitted (without a parking permit) in most
of Washington University's above-ground parking garages or surface
parking lots (parking in loading zones, fire lanes, or in a disabled
parking space without a state-issued handicapped parking placard
is prohibited during Commencement exercises). Parking Staff is on
hand the day of the ceremony to assist visitors and direct vehicles
to available parking areas. A special disabled/mobility-impaired
passenger drop-off area is available just south of Brookings Hall,
as disabled parking spaces are limited near the Quadrangle area.
Access to this drop-off location is by way of Hoyt Drive. Signs
will be posted the day of the ceremony, and Parking Staff will be
available on-site to assist. For more information about Commencement
Day parking, please contact the office of Parking Services at (314)
935-5601, or Washington University's Commencement Office at (314)
935-8186. More information about Washington University's Commencement
can also be found online at http://commencement.wustl.edu/.
Back to Visitors FAQ
Students:
1. What kind
of permit should I have if I'm living on campus? What if I am living
off campus?
If you choose to bring a car to campus, you must purchase
a parking permit. Students who live on the South 40 are required
to purchase a brown parking permit. Students who live in the Village,
Millbrook Square, or the Fraternities are required to purchase a
blue parking permit. Students who live off campus may purchase the
student yellow permit.
Back to Students FAQ
2. I will be
living on campus this year. Is there a place I can park near my
residence hall while moving in?
During Washington University's official Move-In dates
(at the beginning of the Fall Semester), vehicles are allowed thirty
minutes in designated loading and unloading zones to move in students'
belongings. Visitor parking is permitted (without a parking permit)
in the University's residential parking garages and surface parking
lots during the University's official Move-In dates. Parking Services
staff is on hand during Move-In to assist with directing vehicles
to and from the loading zones and visitor parking areas. Move-In
dates for the current academic year will be listed in the "Announcements"
section of the Parking Services homepage, at http://parking.wustl.edu/announcements.htm.
Please note that these special regulations for loading and unloading
are in effect only during the official Move-In dates. If you will
be moving in on a different date, or at the beginning of the Spring
Semester, please be advised that the regular parking policies are
in effect - parking in fire lanes or tow-away zones will not be
permitted at any time, even for loading and unloading purposes.
Back to Students FAQ
3. I am a University
College Student. Which parking permit should I purchase?
Most University College classes are held during the
evening hours (after 4:00 p.m.). Washington University offers parking
permits at a reduced rate for students who are only on campus in
the evenings. The Evening Student permit is valid in yellow zones
after 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is valid in yellow all
day Saturday and Sunday. The Evening Student permit is also valid
in most red zones after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day Saturday
and Sunday (unless the red zone is designated as 24-Red Permit Parking
only - please check posted signs). Please be aware that the Evening
Permit restrictions are in effect even during break periods - during
Winter Break, Spring Break, and the Summer Semester, the permit
is still valid only after 4:00 p.m. If you have an Evening Student
permit and you need to park on campus before 4:00, you must adhere
to the visitor parking policies. Please see Visitor
Parking Options for more information about parking on campus
during the day, when the Evening Student permit is not valid on
campus. University College students do have the option to purchase
the full-time yellow student permit if it proves to be more convenient.
University College students may purchase parking permits at the
office of Parking Services during our regular business hours (8:30
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday), or online at http://parking.wustl.edu/purchase.htm,
however we are unable to add the cost of the permit to your student
account. University College students must pay the permit cost by
cash, check or credit card only.
Back to Students FAQ
4. Do you sell
permits by the semester? What should I do if I only need a parking
permit for one semester?
Washington University's parking permits are valid
for one fiscal year (July 1 to June 30), and are not sold by the
semester. However, if you only need the parking permit for the Fall
Semester, you may return the parking permit to the office of Parking
Services and receive a prorated refund. You may receive a refund
for your parking permit at any time before Spring Break. After Spring
Break, no refunds will be issued for student parking permits. On
January 1st of each year, the annual student parking permits are
prorated to half the full cost. If you only need a parking permit
for the Spring Semester, wait until after January 1st to purchase
your permit for half-price.
Back to Students FAQ
5. Is my parking
permit ever valid in any other color zone?
Blue Permits are never valid in brown
zones, except during specified break periods (Winter Break, Spring
Break, and the Summer Semester). Blue permits are valid in yellow
zones after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and at any time on Saturdays and
Sundays. Blue permits are also valid in most red zones (unless the
red zone is designated as a 24-hour Red Permit Only space - please
check posted signs) after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays
and Sundays.
Brown Permits are never valid in blue zones, except
during specified break periods (Winter Break, Spring Break, and
the Summer Semester). Brown permits are valid in yellow zones after
5:30 p.m. on weekdays and at any time on Saturdays and Sundays.
Brown permits are also valid in most red zones after 5:30 p.m. on
weekdays and on Saturdays and Sundays (unless the red zone is designated
as a 24-hour Red Permit Only space - please check posted signs).
Student Yellow Permits are never valid in blue
or brown zones, except during specified break periods (Winter Break,
Spring Break, and the Summer Semester). Yellow permits are valid
in most red zones after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays and
Sundays (unless the red zone is designated as a 24-hour Red Permit
Only space - please check posted signs).
Evening Yellow Permits are valid in yellow zones
after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, and are valid in yellow
zones all day Saturdays and Sundays. Like the full-time yellow student
permits, the evening yellow permit is never valid in blue or brown
zones, except during specified break periods (Winter Break, Spring
Break, and the Summer Semester). Evening yellow permits are also
valid in most red zones after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays
and Sundays (unless the red zone is designated as a 24-hour Red
Permit Only space - please check posted signs). Please note
that even during break periods, the evening yellow permit is only
valid after 4:00 p.m.
Back to Students FAQ
6. I have an
annual yellow parking permit, but I forgot to display the hangtag
and received a ticket. Do I have to pay the ticket?
If you were parked in the appropriate color zone for
your parking permit and simply forgot to display your parking permit,
Parking Services will void the citation. This can be done no more
than five times per year. Please note that you must contact Parking
Services to request this void - you may either write your permit
number on the parking citation and mail it in the provided envelope,
or come to our office with your parking citation and parking permit
or University ID so we can verify your information and void the
citation.
Back to Students FAQ
7. I have lost
my parking permit. How can I obtain a new one?
If your parking permit has been lost or stolen, you
may purchase a replacement at the office of Parking Services for
the cost of $15. There will be a small form for you to fill out,
and you will be required to show a photo ID. If your permit is declared
lost or stolen, the original permit number will be put on the University's
tow list - if it is found displayed on campus, the vehicle will
be towed immediately, assessed a fine for displaying a lost or stolen
parking permit, and the vehicle owner/operator will be referred
to the appropriate authority.
Back to Students FAQ
8. I own/operate
a student business on campus, but my parking permit does not allow
me to park near the business. Is there any way I can park near my
business without getting a parking ticket for parking in an incorrect
zone?
Student business owners may be eligible for a supplemental
parking permit, which will allow for parking near the business during
hours of operation. For more information about the approval process,
please contact the office of Parking Services at 935-5601.
Back to Students FAQ
9. I will be
leaving town during a University break period. Can I leave my car
on campus?
Yes, the University allows students and employees
to store vehicles on campus during break periods. Individuals who
do not possess an annual parking permit must visit the office of
Parking Services to complete an emergency contact form and obtain
a complimentary placard which must be displayed on the vehicle's
dashboard. Annual permit holders must also contact Parking Services
to fill out an emergency contact form and be advised of the proper
storage location for the current break period. Individuals who do
not fulfill this requirement could face ticketing and/or towing.
Back to Students FAQ
10. Can I
store my vehicle on campus during the summer semester, or during
any other period outside of Fall, Winter or Spring Break?
No, the University cannot accommodate vehicle storage
during the Summer Semester or at any time outside the Fall, Winter
or Spring Break periods. Summer on campus often includes construction
projects, repair and maintenance, and an intensive cleaning of all
parking garages on campus, which most often require the parking
lot or garage to be completely clear of all vehicles. Vehicles left
unattended during the summer semester, or for an extended period
of time during the academic year, could be ticketed and/or towed.
If you need to find a place to store your vehicle during the summer
or while studying abroad, consider other options available off-campus.
Back to Students FAQ
11. My parents
are members of the Eliot Society, and I will be getting a parking
permit as a benefit of their membership. Do you issue the Eliot
Society parking permits? Where can I go to obtain this permit or
find out more information?
Eliot Society parking permits are issued by Alumni
& Development. For more information about the Eliot Society
parking permits, please contact the Eliot Society office at 314-935-5219.
Back to Students FAQ
12. I have
a parking permit that should allow me to park in the Danforth Center
Garage, but my student ID card won't work at the garage entrance.
What should I do?
Once you purchase a parking permit, your ID card should
be activated within 48 hours to allow you access to the underground
garage, according to the type of permit that you possess. If you
have a blue or brown parking permit, your ID card should allow you
to access the garage after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and any time Saturday
and Sunday. Yellow permits should allow ID card access at any time;
evening yellow permits will grant you ID card access to the garage
after 4:00 p.m. on weekends and any time Saturday and Sunday. If
you are having problems with your ID card during times you should
have access to the garage, please contact the office of Parking
Services at 935-5601.
Back to Students FAQ
13. Is it
ever free to park at the parking meters on campus?
Parking meters located in residential areas (all meters
on the South 40 and parking meters near the Village and Millbrook
Square) must be paid 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Parking
meters in the non-residential areas of campus (in front of the Edison
Theatre/Mallinckrodt Center, along the street on Forsyth, Brookings
Drive, etc.) do not have to be paid after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays
and do not have to be paid at all on Saturdays and Sundays. Each
parking meter on campus displays the time that no further payment
is required - be sure to check the meter before you leave your vehicle.
Please also note that many of the parking meters on campus are double-sided,
which means that one parking meter accepts coins and marks time
for two separate parking spaces. If you are parking at one of these
two-sided meters, please make sure that you select the appropriate
space after inserting your coins. When coins are inserted into the
parking meter, you will be prompted to then choose your space. Please
select either the left arrow or the right arrow, depending on which
side your vehicle is parked.
Back to Students FAQ
14. I heard
that you don't have to pay one parking ticket per year. Is this
true?
Washington University will void one parking citation
within our fiscal year (July 1 to June 30), as long as it is the
only ticket received within that time period. If you receive any
additional tickets, then all tickets (including the first one) must
be paid. The "Only Ticket Policy" is explained as follows on the
back of each parking citation: "Only tickets need not be paid, no
further action is necessary. The University will automatically void
a parking citation at the completion of the fiscal year, July 1
- June 30 (for no permit, incorrect zone, or overtime at a meter
only) if it remains the only ticket issued. If any second ticket
is issued, the owner/operator is responsible for paying all fines".
Back to Students FAQ
15. How can
I appeal a parking ticket?
If you feel that you have grounds to contest a parking
citation you received on campus, you may submit a written appeal
within seven days of the citation being issued. Please note that
lack of knowledge of Washington University's parking rules and regulations
are not valid grounds for the appeal of a parking citation. Washington
University's Parking Appeals Committee, which is comprised of student,
faculty and staff representatives, meets once per month to review,
discuss and determine the status of each citation that has been
appealed. Appeal forms are available at the office of Parking Services,
and are also available to fill out and submit online at parking.wustl.edu/appeals.htm.
You may also compose a letter to serve as your appeal, which may
be mailed (along with your citation) to Parking Services, Attn:
Appeals Committee, Campus Box 1200, One Brookings Drive, St Louis,
MO 63130.
Back to Students FAQ
16. I would
like to request a U-Pass, but I have forgotten my password to access
the online request form?
Students will use their WebSTAC information to access
the U-Pass request form. If you need assistance logging in with
your WebSTAC information, please contact the SIS Help Desk at 935-5919.
Back to Students FAQ
17. I have
attempted to request a U-Pass, but it says I'm not eligible. What
should I do?
In order to be eligible for the student U-Pass, you
must be registered as a full-time student for the semester for which
you're requesting your pass. If you have completed your registration
and attempt to request your U-Pass immediately, you may still be
declared ineligible. Our system is updated periodically throughout
the day, so you may just need to wait a few hours for your eligibility
status to change. If you're having difficulty with the U-Pass application
process, please contact Transportation Services at 935-4140.
Back to Students FAQ
18. Is the
U-Pass card I received from the Transportation Department all I
need to ride the buses, shuttles, and the MetroLink?
No, you must also have your Washington University
student ID with you when using your U-Pass. When riding Metro buses,
you will be required to swipe your U-Pass through the card reader
upon boarding. On the MetroLink, you will be asked to show your
valid U-Pass along with your Washington University student ID. If
you are unable to present both your U-Pass and your student ID to
Metro personnel or fare inspectors, you may be issued a citation
and required to pay a court-imposed fine.
Back to Students FAQ
19. I have
lost my U-Pass. How can I obtain a replacement?
Replacement Student U-Passes must be purchased at
the office of Parking & Transportation Services, located on the
North Campus at 700 Rosedale. There will be a small form to fill
out, and a photo ID will be required. A replacement fee of $25 will
be due at the time the new Student U-Pass is issued to you, payable
by cash, check or credit card.

Faculty/Staff:
1. I have
decided that I no longer want a parking permit. How do I stop the
monthly payroll deductions?
In order to stop the monthly payroll deductions for
your parking permit, the permit must be returned to Parking Services.
Please make sure that the permit is returned to us by the first
business day of the month, to avoid being charged for that month.
Back to Faculty/Staff FAQ
2. I am
leaving the University permanently. What should I do with my parking
permit and my U-Pass?
If you will be leaving the University, you are required
to return your parking permit and your U-Pass to the office of Parking
& Transportation Services. If your parking permit and your U-Pass
are not returned, you may be billed for the cost of each.
Back to Faculty/Staff FAQ
3. I am
taking a temporary leave. What should I do with my parking permit
and my U-Pass?
If you will be receiving continuous benefits from
the University during your leave, you may keep your U-Pass (as it
is considered part of an employee's benefits package). However,
your parking permit must be returned to Parking Services to avoid
being charged for the months during which you were on leave.
Back to Faculty/Staff FAQ
4. I am
an employee who only works nine months out of the year. Do I have
to return my parking permit and my U-Pass during the months I won't
be working?
If you will be receiving continuous benefits from
the University during the three months you do not work, you may
keep your U-Pass (as it is considered part of an employee's benefits
package). However, your parking permit must be returned to Parking
Services to avoid being charged for the months during which you
do not work.
Back to Faculty/Staff FAQ
5. I am
a new employee. Can I purchase a parking permit immediately? Can
I request a U-Pass immediately?
New employees may purchase a parking permit at the
office of Parking Services at any time. However, new employees may
only purchase a parking permit online after an employee ID number
and an HRMS password have been issued. A new employee must also
have an employee ID number and HRMS password to request a U-Pass.
New employees must also wait for their benefits-eligibility to be
finalized in order to request a U-Pass, a process which may take
up to two weeks from the employment start date.

7. I have
an annual parking permit, but I forgot to display it and I received
a ticket. Do I have to pay the ticket?
If you were parked in the appropriate color zone for
your parking permit and simply forgot to display your parking permit,
Parking Services will void the citation. This can be done no more
than five times per year. Please note that you must contact Parking
Services to request this void - you may either write your permit
number on the parking citation and mail it in the provided envelope,
or come to our office with your parking citation and parking permit
or University ID so we can verify your information and void the
citation.

8. I have
lost my parking permit. How can I obtain a new one?
If your parking permit has been lost or stolen, you
may purchase a replacement at the office of Parking Services for
the cost of $15. There will be a small form for you to fill out,
and you will be required to show a photo ID. If your permit is declared
lost or stolen, the original permit number will be put on the University's
tow list - if it is found displayed on campus, the vehicle will
be towed immediately, assessed a fine for displaying a lost or stolen
parking permit, and the vehicle owner/operator will be referred
to the proper authority.

9. How
can I appeal a parking ticket?
Appeals Committee, Campus Box 1200, One Brookings Drive, St Louis,
MO 63130.

10. My
department is hosting an event on campus. What kind of parking information
should we provide for our visitors?
Visitors are required to display a valid parking permit
when parked on campus at all times Monday through Friday. If your
event is being held during the weekend (between 6:00 p.m. Friday
and 7:00 a.m. Monday), please direct your guests to park in yellow
zones, as no permit is required to park in yellow zones during weekends
(with the exception of the Danforth Garage unless prior arrangements
have been made by the sponsoring department). If your event is being
held during the week, please make certain that your guests are aware
of the parking policies and are displaying a valid parking permit.
Some departments choose to purchase daily permits or validation
tickets for the Danforth Center Garage from our office to distribute
to guests (please see Question #11 below for more information about
ordering parking permits and validation tickets). Parking Services
will also reserve parking spaces on campus for one or more guests
attending an event or meeting on campus. For more information about
reserved parking prices and procedures, or if you would like to
discuss options for visitor parking for your department's event,
please contact the office of Parking Services at 935-5601. We’re
glad to help!

11. I
would like to order temporary parking permits or validation tickets
for my department. How can I place this order?
Departments may purchase daily permits (which are
valid in yellow zones for one day) for the cost of $5 each. Parking
Services also offers validation tickets for the Danforth Center
Garage, which can be distributed to guests for use in the garage.
Departments who utilize the validation tickets are charged monthly
for guest parking, at the rate of $1 per hour (maximum $5.00), based
on the entrance ticket and validation ticket which are presented
to the garage attendant (or automatic pay station) upon the guest's
exit of the garage. Please note that daily permits are not
honored in the Danforth Garage. If you are interested in
purchasing daily permits or obtaining Danforth Garage validation
tickets, please send your request by e-mail to parktrans@wustl.edu.
Please include the number of permits/tickets you're requesting,
the department number to charge, and your name and phone number.
Parking Services staff will contact you once the request has been
received. You may also call 935-5601 to place your order by phone.

14. I
have a parking permit that should allow me to park in the Danforth
Underground Garage, but my employee ID doesn't work at the garage
entrance?
Once you purchase a parking permit, your ID card should
be activated within 48 hours to allow you access to the underground
garage, according to the type of permit that you possess. If you
have a faculty/staff yellow or red parking permit, your ID card

15. What
is an Official Business permit? How could this be helpful to my
department?
The Official Business permit allows for parking in
most any parking zone for up to two hours. This permit is sold to
outside vendors who make frequent trips to campus for service, maintenance,
or deliveries, but is also available for purchase by University
Departments. The Official Business permit is very helpful for employees
who must attend meetings in different areas of campus, or who provide
services for other University departments. When used in this capacity,
the Official Business permit must be displayed along with an individual's
annual Washington University parking permit, or a valid one-day
parking permit. The two permits displayed together will allow you
to park in any color zone or at parking meters for no longer than
two hours. Please note that the Official Business permit
is never valid in Fire Lanes or disabled parking spaces.
If you are interested in purchasing an Official Business permit
for your department, please contact the office of Parking Services
at 935-5601, or send an e-mail request to parktrans@wustl.edu.

16. I
would like to request a U-Pass, but I have forgotten my password
to access the online request form?
Employees will use their HRMS Employee Self-Service
ID and password to access the U-Pass request form. If you need assistance
logging in to HRMS, please contact the HRMS Help Desk at 935-5707.
Back to Faculty/Staff FAQ
17. I
have attempted to request a U-Pass, but the system is telling me
I am not eligible. What should I do?
Employees must receive benefits from the University
in order to be eligible for the U-Pass. If you are a new employee
who will be receiving benefits, please note that there is a short
waiting period before your U-Pass eligibility will be finalized
(this normally takes no longer than two weeks from your start date).
If you are a benefits-eligible employee who has been at the University
for longer than this required verification time, and are still receiving
the message that you are ineligible for the U-Pass, please contact
Transportation Services at 935-4140.
Back to Faculty/Staff FAQ
18. Is
the U-Pass card I received from the Transportation Department all
I need to ride the buses, shuttles, and the MetroLink?
No, you must also have your Washington University
employee ID with you when using your U-Pass. When riding Metro buses,
you will be required to swipe your U-Pass through the card reader
upon boarding. On the MetroLink, you will be asked to show your
valid U-Pass along with your Washington University employee ID.
If you are unable to present both your U-Pass and your employee
ID to Metro personnel or fare inspectors, you may be issued a citation
and required to pay a court-imposed fine.
Back to Faculty/Staff FAQ
