Disabled parking on campus

All parking on the Washington University campus is permit parking. All vehicles parking on University property must display a valid Washington University parking permit.

Members of the University community who believe they require temporary disabled parking may seek authorization for use of the designated disabled parking spaces on campus. The University marks and designates disabled parking according to federal and state guidelines.

Disabled parking is located near each campus building and is clearly indicated on the campus parking map. Only those with state-issued disabled plates or placards and a paid Washington University permit or pass may use disabled spaces on campus. If the designated disabled parking spaces are occupied, an individual displaying the appropriate permits may park in the closest or most convenient legal parking space, regardless of zone.

Authorization for use of disabled parking must be displayed one of two ways:

1). The display of a valid WU parking permit AND a valid disabled placard or plate issued through the Department of Revenue (DOR)

2). The display of a valid WU parking permit AND a valid temporary disabled parking placard issued by WU Parking & Transportation Services.

  • Disabled parking will be granted by WU on a temporary basis only, defined as twelve weeks or less. Students, faculty, and staff with long-term needs should apply for state-issued authorization through the (DOR).
  • Students, faculty, and staff who have been granted temporary status through WU must be notified that the authorization is only for parking in disabled spaces located on WU property.
  • WU-authorized disabled parking must be certified by the Director of Student Health Services (SHS) or his/her designee. This certification must include an expiration date encompassing a period not greater than 12 weeks.
  • WU-authorized disabled parking shall be valid for no more than 12 weeks. The tag may be re-certified by SHS for one additional 12-week period. After the re-certified tag has expired, authorization from the DOR must be sought by the individual to continue to utilize disabled parking on campus.
  • WU-issued disabled parking tags should be kept at a minimum so that there are a sufficient number of disabled spaces available to holders of DOR tags.
